Rome - one the most beautiful cities in the world every year millions of tourists come from around the world to admire the treasures and masterpieces of Roman art and architecture.
Rome is the capital of Italy and of the Lazio region. Rome the “Eternal City” is on the River Tiber, between the Apennine Mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Rome was centre of Roman Empire and today is the home of the Italian government. Rome is also the main headquarters for the Roman Catholic Church, with the Pope residing in Vatican City.
Rome is one of the most ancient cities in Europe; ancient Rome has lived through 2,700 years.
Since then it has been continuously inhabited, and, as headquarters first of the Roman Empire and then of the Roman Catholic Church, it has had a gigantic impact on the world.
Today's Rome has become the world's most famous open-air museum. The city itself retains layers of buildings spanning over two millennia.
The historic center of Rome is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
